Brief Bio:

I’m a graphic design student at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC.

Less Brief Bio:

My name is Samir Zahran. I was born and raised in South Carolina, although I doubt many people would consider me a “good southern boy.” I live in Rock Hill, SC with my three roommates: Geoff, Creech and Misfit the cat.

I took a lot of art classes growing up and obviously had an interest in creative fields. I also had an interest in technology, which mostly materialized as a passion for computers and video games. It was in middle school when the two—art and computers—fused together in a glorious spark of genius. I began recreating Pokémon Trading Card artwork in MS Paint. A graphic designer was born!

Fast-forward to junior year of high school. I attended Wren High School in Piedmont, SC. We had the option of taking courses at the Career and Technology Center. Randomly (and luckily) I stumbled into Danita Swaney’s graphic arts class where I learned the ins and outs of Adobe software (CS1 at the time). This prompted my parents to buy me my first laptop, an iBook G4. That was the end of me having a life: From then on I was a design dork.

I’m currently in my fifth year of school. I’ll be graduating in May, 2010 and from there I just have to figure out this “the real world” thing everyone talks so much about. Until then I’ll be floating around Rock Hill. The plan after graduation is work like mad crazy, which usually requires a job of some kind, so we’ll see.

I’m eager to do some design work. I’ve got experience in both print and web, specifically HTML, CSS and some PHP. I’ve also got experience with blogging software. Pricing varies so get in touch and we’ll work it out. It’s ideal if you are in the Rock Hill/Charlotte area so we can meet to talk things through, but I’m willing to conduct business via long-distance methods if necessary.
