George Orwell’s 1984 is one of my all-time favorite books so I really tried to do it justice by going in a direction I hadn’t seen on any other 1984 jacket art. Rather than focus on eyes, Big Brother, etc., I latched onto the idea of the destruction of language as a way of suppressing anti-government sentiment. The book stresses the importance that language plays in how people can think and the fact that 1984’s civilization was the first in history to lose words each year, rather than to create new ones.
