I’m working on manually merging six photos together for an image we want to use on www.ill-gd.com. I’m such a loner.

We never plan it, but we usually end up wearing nice colors that compliment each other. It must be the designer in us all.

This is the face of a designer who got caught up in work (as happens quite often) and found himself working nonstop until 5am.

Notice the look of resignation—he must wake up in the morning, and there is no way to turn back the clock. Tonight (this morning?) he will not get adequate sleep—his mother will worry for him—however it is times such as these, in the moments before dawn, when he realizes something important about himself: He tortures himself easing disparate elements into a cohesive design, he robs his body of sleep and essential nutrients (Earlier in the night he made tea, only to forget about it and let it steep for 2 hours. He has been known to forget to eat; again, his mother weeps), but despite this he is happy—against all odds it would seem—completely happy with how his day played itself out. He is a designer and this is what he sacrifices in the name of his craft because he knows it is worth it. At least to him.

Normally I’m not a fan of pages like this—too reminiscent of GeoCities and Under Construction animated GIFs—but this time I’ll make an exception (and not just because it’s beautiful and I designed it). We have set a clear date for when this site is going live and by God it will be live on that date. However, by necessity we needed something visual to show until we finalize the content, so that’s the harsh truth of the matter.

So … in the meantime you should head over to Ill-GD and gaze at the timer until you’re mesmerized by it.

We’re working on making portfolios for our senior show in class. These are sample spreads to give the class an idea of what I’m thinking for mine. The photo quality (particularly on the chip bags) is awful, but these are just rough mock-ups. Seriously—first spread, second page is horrendous but it will be good I promise.

Speaking of our senior show, I’m designing the website for the event, which I’m happy for because it will be a great portfolio piece itself. The art direction is by Brandon so I had a good solid footing to start off on. I’ll post info on the show itself as it becomes finalized, but the site should be up soon and that will cover everything you need to know.

UPDATE: Forgot to mention, I updated my resumé. For some reason I feel the need to say this, even though it’s not very important. I’m just that way I guess.

Just a quick update. Here’s the state of my chip bags so far, now called Little Devils.

Pesky little chips. All photos were taken by Ben Jack with direction by me. The shoot was hella fun, and proved to me that there’s nothing better than having a great photographer take custom pictures for your projects. Seriously, Ben is wonderful, and shame on you all if you don’t visit his website.

Geoff was the winner as far as fuckin’ rage goes. He is an angry, angry man.

I’ll have the final product of this shoot posted soon (read: whenever I actually finish it).
