Sam I Are
There was a well-intentioned but short-lived graphic design club here at Winthrop for a while. One of the things we did to try and promote design was to let a different member design each weeks poster. This only fell to me once and it was fairly close to the beginning of the club’s run so I tried to promote the community aspect of joining the club.
Also, Legos are the bomb.
My camera is broken so no good photos for a while. Instead I’ll link to the flickr page where all my in-progress cell phone pics reside (a lot of which I already tweeted so there might not be much new here).
The photo-set can be seen here.

They make shoes and shoe-related accessories.
This is how I generally work on a typographic logo. I sketch out some quick ideas—directions I’d like to explore. Once I’m feeling good about a few I’ll type out the word(s) in Illustrator and see how a bunch of fonts work. I’ll usually have a page full of different fonts but here I’ve narrowed it down to just one (not necessarily my final choice).
Then I play around.
I’ll try to make my original ideas materialize but I often find myself heading in new directions (not necessarily good ones but any experimentation is helpful). Sketching is wonderful but once I have the actual type sitting there, like building blocks on my screen, I can see possibilities that I didn’t see before.
None of the ideas above are finished. The final might be something completely different.
I was going to post a magazine layout I did last year but apparently I’m missing the fonts, so until I find them again here’s the illustrations I made for said layout. They’re all based on images I found online and if anyone thinks they violate fair usage please tell me so we can sort it out (in other words I’d rather not get sued).
